From reglazing windows to complex residential and commercial projects, glazing offers endless opportunities. Your skills can take you anywhere!
Earn, train on the job, and attend 5 to 10 days of off-job training each year, delivered by industry expert tutors. Achieve your Level 4 NZQA Certificate in Glazing in 3-4 years.

You'll be training at 3 Cedric Place, Plimmerton, Porirua, just a short walk from the Plimmerton train station on the Kapiti Line.
Sort out your travel plans before day one so you’re good to go!

Most apprentices go for a GGINZ arranged homestay - you’ll get a comfy room, breakfast, and a home-cooked meal each night. Just fill out the application form - book early this is a popular choice.

Urban Bake is just 2 minutes from the school and great for a sandwich, pie, or early morning coffee. If you’re after more options, Mana and Plimmerton have plenty of sit-down spots and takeaways to choose from.

Check with your boss for your course dates and any info they’ve got.
Read the BCITO info sheet so you know what to expect and pack e.g. full PPE.
Sort your flights and Uber if needed.
Staying in a homestay? Call your host and let them know when you’ll arrive on Sunday.

Health & Safety and What to Wear
Hoodies are not allowed during training. They can be a safety risk, especially when working around glass and machinery. If you have a company uniform, please wear it instead.
Some of the things You Need to Bring:
Make sure you turn up with the correct gear - no exceptions. You are required to bring EN 388 Code 4121 gloves (unmodified), gauntlets, safety glasses, safety boots, and a Hi Vis top or vest. Click here for the full list.
Wearing the correct PPE is your responsibility and a key part of being worksite-ready.

Talk with your Training Advisor and your boss about which unit standards you'll be covering at your course. Your employer or on-the-job trainer will help you to start learning some of these skills before your off-job training course at GGI.
At GGI, your tutors will take your skills to the next level. You’ll then keep practicing back at work before your Training Advisor checks in to assess if you’ve nailed the standard and awards you with the unit.

Project Training Videos
In year one, you'll learn to measure accurately, record details, cut glass, use machinery, understand trade terms, identify different glass types, read plans, and price jobs.

Booking Homestay Accomodation
Homestays are a great option—get a comfy bed, dinner, and breakfast Monday to Friday, plus lunch on weekends. It takes the hassle out of your stay so you can focus on learning.
How to become an Apprentice
A glazing apprenticeship opens doors worldwide.
Find a supportive employer, with help from BCITO, and complete your 3-4 year Glazing Level 4 apprenticeship both on and off the job.
