Courses & Qualifications

Learn by sharing, listening, watching, doing, and practicing.

GGI offers courses for apprentices and trade industry persons updating their skills and knowledge. GGI is the only Glass and Glazing school in NZ solely for Glaziers and people in the Glass and Glazing trade.

More than 250 apprentices attend their glazing off-job training course at the Glass and Glazing School in Plimmerton.  Courses are intentionally small from 6 to 10 persons – that way you get the best teaching. On the course, we will demonstrate, and you get to practice in a safe controlled workshop designed for you by Glaziers in your Trade.

NZ Certificate in Glazing Level 4, with strands

Year one – your first off-job training course is a mix of practical workshop projects and classroom theory. Your course is two weeks long during this time, you’ll do 11 compulsory projects, if you want a challenge there is one optional project involving complex measuring and cutting.

Year two – your second off job training focuses on the strand(s) you’ve picked which might be Residential, Commercial, or Frameless. Year one sets you up for Year two. You’ll do more challenging measuring, glass cutting, calculations, trade, and product knowledge specific to the work you’re doing on-site.

Every glazing task project relates directly to the unit standards and outcomes in your qualification.  Taking photos with step-by-step details against each unit standard about each project “What” and “How” are super important this all helps you to qualify.  Share these with your Boss, workmates, and BCTO Training Advisor when back on the job.

Block Courses for 2025

BCITO advises employers and apprentices of the dates booked for an apprentice to complete an off-job training course. When receiving a course date, it is recommended that the dates are noted in your work schedule. Courses are very full. A withdrawal could mean a long wait to be rescheduled.
